Mary Turner 1985

Mary Turner today

Mary Turner really rocked the house.  Normally when any of the jocks got a reaction, it'd be split.  The ones that were really liked would draw complaints.  I never remember fielding a complaint about Mary.  I remember the barracks rocking.  Thank you Mary.  Continued success!

Roland Bynum 1981

Roland's brought the party!

Let's revisit 1981 with some Soulin' with Roland!

Bill Stewart 1967

I've always been a huge fan of the Quintet of the Hot Club of France.  You may have heard about Django Reinhardt.  It was his group.  I was listening to a Bill Stewart Show about Hugues PanassiĆ© the creator of the group.  When Bill was jazzing it was always a better show.  Take a listen:

Jim Pewter 1973

For St Paul to AFKN to Los Angeles, Jim made it happen.  When he got back from Korea and AFKN he started with AFRTS.  Phil would DX AFN Munich.  The weekend starts soon.  Fire up the grill and hear great oldies from Jim Pewter.  It's crazy clothes day!

Don Tracy 1980

Imagine my surprise when I checked the website voicemail and there was a message from Don Tracy, offering whatever help he could.  Don sounds great.  Called him back and we introduced each other.  He's getting ready to be heard from again.  Don started with AFRTS in 1973 and it was largely a weekend gig that got more interesting as time went by. It took a while for the fan mail to start and he had received a letter from Germany, asking if he'd like to come over as a morale builder. He went to in Nuremberg, to support AFN.  A big memory of that was when the Stars and Stripes reporter was going to make him look bad by asking about the government paid boondoggle.  It didn't work.  Don had taken vacation and paid for the trip out of pocket.

We'll be hearing more from Don Tracy.

Joe Ferguson 1983

Joe Ferguson back with more memories of 1983.  In 1983 the network tried being less LA-centric and got jocks all over the country to do shows for the troops.  Joe was in Portland OR and brings it home...  A few years ago Joe sent his set of disks for us to hear again.  Many thanks!
